Susan recalls her grandmother. In her memory, Susan as a child - a freckle-faced little girl with her hair in short pigtails and wearing overalls - looks up at an elderly woman with short grey hair. They are surrounded by autumn leaves. Susan takes another sip of tea.
Susan: You know, my grandmother used to say
“You can’t always do everything.
Or even the best thing.
But you can always do the best that you can.”
Director: She sounds very wise.
Susan: I wonder if she felt wise.
