Morio is unable to help Alf come to a decision, but the old man doesn’t seem to mind. He does grow tired, however, and Morio helps make him more comfortable. Alf then makes a confession.
Morio: I like them. They all reflect your sense of humour. They make me think of you.
Alf: That’s real lovely. But not real helpful.
Morio: Sorry.
Alf: It’s fine. I got a solid shortlist. If I can’t decide, I’m sure somebody can. I ain’t the one stuck with it anyways.
—Whew… 
Morio: Would you like me to adjust…?
Alf: Please.
Morio: OK.
Alf: …By the way… I have to apologize…
